The GEN7 or Articulate uses a thin shaped wood disc core with layers of pressed felt around the circumference and top. The inner wrap builds some height so that the sound doesn't get too narrow. This mallet is great for high energy melodic solos, such as the third movement solo in Martin's Concerto for Seven Winds and Timpani.
